Lexicon, Inc.
Data Analytics Manager
DAY AT WORK
My team is responsible for the architectural design, implementation, training and oversight of Lexicon’s operational software. On a typical day, activities include meeting with end users to understand their challenges, conducting research and development to identify appropriate software use cases, and performing in-office testing prior to field implementation.
BEGINNING INTERESTS
While studying accounting in college, I discovered I had a knack for statistics. My professor thought I possessed a unique skill set and encouraged me to switch majors to Business Analytics, which turned out to be a much better fit for me.
CAREER EVOLUTION
I began as a word processor at an engineering firm and advanced to accounting coordinator. To qualify for further promotions, I needed a bachelor’s degree, so with my family’s support, I worked full time while completing a heavy course load at UA Little Rock and graduated a year early. While not ideal, that fast pace allowed me to advance in my career without falling behind my peers.
LOVE THE WORK
Mostly, I love helping solve problems. It is an innate part of my personality to help fix things and to make things better. Lexicon’s rapidly growing tech stack provides me with the opportunity to tackle challenging problems with innovative solutions every day.
SURPRISING BUT TRUE
You don’t need to be great at science or math to enter a STEAM career. I found those subjects challenging in high school and was initially advised toward a career in literature.
ADVICE
Don’t be afraid to reach out to other people for perspective and experiences when deciding how you want your life to look. I don’t know a single successful woman who would refuse to offer guidance to the next generation. Be brave enough to ask for help and you will be surprised at the number of people willing to offer support.
