This week, Lexicon, Inc. welcomed approximately 20 graduating high school seniors from the Pulaski County Special School District for its first-ever Skilled Trades Summer Internship Exploration Day, an immersive, hands-on experience designed to introduce students to careers in the skilled trades and raise awareness of Lexicon’s inaugural summer internship program.

Held at Lexicon’s Port of Little Rock headquarters on Monday, April 20, the daylong event provided students with a comprehensive look at the company and the opportunities available within the skilled trades. Participants engaged in facility tours, safety training, workplace readiness sessions and hands-on lab experiences, while also connecting with Lexicon leaders and employees who shared their career journeys.

“Events like this are critical to building the next generation of skilled trades professionals,” said Janell Schmidt, Chief Human Resources Officer at Lexicon. “We are intentional about building a talent pipeline and creating opportunities that go beyond awareness; we want students to see themselves here, to understand the pathways available to them and to begin building the skills and confidence they need to succeed. This is about investing in people and strengthening the future workforce that will build America.”

Throughout the day, students learned about Lexicon’s full workforce development pipeline — from early exposure through partnerships like the Mills University Studies High School Academy, to internships, apprenticeships and long-term career growth within the company.

Lexicon’s Skilled Trades Summer Internship Exploration Day reflects the company’s broader commitment to workforce development and addressing the growing demand for skilled labor across the construction and steel industries. By connecting students to real-world experiences and career pathways early, Lexicon is helping to build a stronger, more sustainable workforce for the future.
